The number of Year 11 leavers fell again in 2021. This was a direct result of the COVID-19 pandemic and schools’ decisions not to exclude pupils. The number of PX and APX students was lower than in 2020. This reduction can be seen in the number of students who completed Y11 in our commissioned AP.
The average stay in the PRU dropped compared with 2020 from 402 school days to 285. Whilst this is regarded as a positive (students not being ‘stuck’ at the PRU for long periods of time due to our inability to move them on to a specialist place or back to mainstream), it still represents 57 weeks and means that the average Y11 leaver arrived in the autumn term of their Year 10. Four Y11 leavers arrived in the PRU in Year 7.
As the bar charts on the left illustrate, the proportion of pupils who have achieved 5 or more GCSE passes at Grade 1-9 has increased by 7.6% this year. The proportion of pupils achieving at least 5 or more GCSE passes at Grade 4-9 increased by 4.4%. There is good evidence that these increases were fuelled by three factors: the assessment recognised what the pupils ‘can’ do; they alleviated pupils’ anxiety and they alleviated the impact of ‘exam fatigue’ which had been observed in previous exam series. |
Following a rigorous quality assurance process, which was reported to Governors in the summer term, our Teacher Assessed Grades (TAGs) were ratified in the summer. The tables above and the graphs below show the trends in key outcome measures. In 2021 there has been an increase in the Average Total Points score, the average points per subject, the proportion of pupils who achieved 5+ Grade 1-9s and the proportion of pupils who achieved 5+ Grade 4-9s.
The following table shows the 2019 to 2021 outcomes for a range of groups key pupil groups
