Lead Case Worker
Lead Caseworker 35 hours per week Term Time only plus 2 weeks (41 weeks)
Grade 8 Actual salary £36,602 – £41,161 (FTE £40,476 – £44,711) Pay award is pending
We have an exciting opportunity to join our Pastoral Support Team as a Lead Caseworker on a permanent basis.
The purpose of the role is the effective management of a small team of Pastoral Support Officers to ensure the effective safeguarding of our pupils; deliver case supervision and support for the team. Supervision of the team includes compiling and reviewing data reports, reviewing written reports and providing advice and guidance on safeguarding issues. You will also manage a caseload of pupils yourself, ensuring pupils are supported with appropriate interventions.
The role involves higher level safeguarding of Manchester’s most vulnerable students and integral to the role is working with partner agencies including our Alternative Provision Specialist Taskforce and school staff focused on providing timely interventions for at-risk pupils including high-risk safeguarding. The context of safeguarding issues affecting our children include; extra-familiar harm, serious youth violence and missing children. As part of the role you will attend Child Protection meetings, Case Conferences, LAC reviews and lead on Youth Justice PEPs.
Manchester Secondary PRU is an established Pupil Referral Unit which supports young people with complex needs by:
- Leading a creative and high quality curriculum;
- Promoting inclusion for some of Manchester’s most vulnerable young people;
- Developing a nurturing and safe environment for all pupils across a number of settings
We work closely with a range of external agencies to promote the Manchester Inclusion Strategy; a city-wide initiative to ensure that the most vulnerable young people in Manchester receive the education that they deserve.

Qualifications and Experience
- Qualified to at least Level 4 in a relevant subject – e.g. Teaching, Social Care, Youth Work, Careers Guidance
- Minimum of Level 2 qualification in English and Mathematics or equivalent
- DSL or higher level safeguarding trained/ experience in safeguarding
- Experience of working with working with young people in similar environment
- Experience of working with vulnerable / 'at risk' young people
- Line Management experience
- Experience of working with internal / external agencies
- Experience of risk assessments and defensible decision making
- Delivery of staff training and CPD
- Full driving license
